Our client is a global multi-billion dollar Consumer Packaged Goods company, based in Westchester County, NY. They are seeking a contract Research & Innovation Specification Manager to work in their Rockville, MD office. This is approximately a 1 year contract.

 

Position Summary:

The Research & Innovation (“R&I”) Specification Manager - Contractor contributes to manage raw materials and packaging specifications for food ingredients as per business requirements and assigned projects ensuring full nutritional, quality & food safety and regulatory compliance of ingredients via connecting with multiple functions within company and various raw material suppliers. The position is responsible for the development of raw material and packaging specification applicable for innovation, productivity, secure supply, quality and compliance with local legislation.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for leading and conducting raw material and packaging specification for all food ingredients
  • Responsible for contacting global and local raw materials and packaging suppliers to ensure full compliance of food safety documentation for each raw material supplied
  • Member of cross functional team, such as Supplier Quality Management members, Quality Governance & Systems, Research & Innovation and C&P (purchasing team), ensuring compliance to the internal specifications
  • Upload, manage and validate raw material and packaging specification and food safety documents in SAP system to ensure full compliance of materials in subject of update
  • Responsible for planning and controlling analysis of each raw materials and packaging
  • Supporting company’s materials buyer, operation, and supply chain division in providing relevant information regarding raw material and packaging specification
  • Working together with Product Technologist regarding the nutrient and contaminants compliance to ensure the highest standard of finished products for sensitive consumers
  • Provide ongoing technical support to the business for new and existing raw materials and packaging.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of process technologies (liquids & powders) and ingredient or pharmaceutical background
  • Demonstration of technical knowledge when communicating internally and externally
  • Strong MS Office knowledge, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to drive cross-functional project teams

Supervisory responsibilities:

  • The R&I Specification Manager – Contractor does not have any direct or indirect reports

 

Working conditions:

  • Work is conducted in an office and warehouse/production environment

 

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline relevant to food or pharmaceuticals with relevant product development experience
  • Master’s degree in Food Engineering, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or Production Engineering preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant product development and/or research experience
  • Technical skills on raw material specification is a plus
  • Comfortable and passionate about creating and monitoring ideas under tight timelines
  • Fluent in English, both written and orally. Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus.
