Senior Business Reporting Analyst – Rapid City, SD

Our client is a premier provider of targeted specialized insurance products in North America and selected other markets.  They are looking for a contract Sr. Business Reporting Analyst to work in their Rapid City, SD office.  This is currently a contract only position (6 months), but that may change based on business needs, budget and personal performance.  Remote candidates will be considered.

Description:

The Senior Business Reporting Analyst is a key player in the Global Preneed Reporting team and broader Preneed organization with responsibility for leading efforts to automate and standardize reporting, writing advanced SQL queries and developing valuable analytical tools for the business. The Senior Analyst will work collaboratively with individuals across the organization, as well provide direct coaching and support to Reporting Analyst I and II’s. The position brings a working knowledge of the organization’s systems, expertise in the business areas as well as in current technology advances and capabilities. The Senior Business Reporting Analyst plays an active role in transforming the future of the organizations use of data and insightful reporting.

Data and Reporting Requests (70%)

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of data sources and structure as well as ability to extract and manipulate data using SQL
  • Design and develop automated reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Visual Studio or other BI tools
  • Create complex reports using advanced SQL queries to address internal and external business needs, with appropriate documentation for future use
  • Clearly communicate complex information concisely and articulately for all levels and audiences
  • Drive research, development and implementation of technology-based solutions that eliminate or minimize human interaction in the creation of routine reports
  • Serve as Preneed lead for data quality; Partner with Data Services enterprise group and Preneed business resources as needed to resolve issues
  • Lead Reporting efforts for large, cross-functional projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Combine business knowledge and technical expertise to develop interactive reports/dashboards and advanced models to facilitate analysis of historical trends and forecasting
  • Collaborate with other Preneed leaders to identify innovative ways to utilize data and related tools to advance business objectives

Production Reporting Support (15%)

  • Provide customer assistance to internal and external partners regarding complex reporting questions and issues
  • Owns business problem and impact of complex reporting issues and drives resolution, which may require collaboration with Operations, IT, or other internal or external partners
  • Resolves complex issues by leading efforts to gather and analyze related information, identify the cause of the problem, design technical solutions, and work with other departments as necessary to test and implement changes
  • Coordinate and manage meetings as necessary to execute all steps of resolution

Coaching & Leadership (15%)

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to other Business Reporting Analysts in areas of strategic and critical thinking, communication, and collaboration
  • Demonstrates effective knowledge sharing, and proactively identifies opportunities to expand Business Report Analyst I and II’s technical skills
  • Review team deliverables, as applicable, for accuracy and completeness
  • Works with manager to define best practices and processes for team deliverables, as well as manage assignment of requests to various team members
  • No direct reports, however this role has oversight of Business Reporting Analyst I and II’s

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Management Information Systems or related field
  • 5 - 8 years reporting experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.)
  • Proficiency with data and reporting tools (SQL Services, VBA, Oracle, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.)
  • 5% Travel

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Advanced level proficiency with MS Excel, including Power Query, Power Pivot, Power View, VBA
  • Advanced SQL relational database knowledge including database design, structures, query writing, table set up and maintenance
  • Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, including Report Builder and Visual Studio
  • Prior experience working in Data or Reporting role in Life Insurance industry is a plus
  • Experience coaching, collaborating and delegating in leadership capacity is desired
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
