Our client is a premier provider of targeted specialized insurance products in North America and selected other markets.  They are looking for a contract Buyer to work in their York, PA location.  Estimated length of assignment is 1 year.



The Buyer negotiates the purchase of equipment, supplies and services within authorized limits. The Buyer processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders using system software and leads customer focused special projects. The Buyer must also be familiar with purchasing contract terms, RFP process and bid analysis.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchase goods and services by utilizing the Procurement operation’s processes and technology across company’s enterprise to meet the needs of the customers
  • Review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy
  • Develop, implement and follow established Procurement policies, procedures and organization structure
  • Manage suppliers, internal costs, quality and delivery performance
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process
  • Maintain and promote sound relationships with suppliers and the business community
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with internal customers
  • Provide support to other buyers across company’s enterprise as required


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Business or Finance
  • Minimum of 3 years buying and procurement related experience

  • Ability to positively adjust to changing daily demands and work volumes required
  • Effective verbal and written skills with mid to upper level management required
  • Above-average telephone and interpersonal skills required
  • Above-average judgment, initiative, problem solving, collaboration and teamwork skills required
  • Ability to conduct Request For Proposal (RFP) projects.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of purchasing terms, concepts, processes and procedures
  • Lawson Procurement system experience


Environment/Physical Demands:

This position requires incumbents to regularly sit at a desk and operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone. Employee is occasionally required to stand and walk, lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
